Ideal library catalogue

Andrew Preater from Senate House library gave a very interesting presentation at the 17th EIUG Conference in Glasgow. His talk, Mental models and user experience of a next-generation catalogue, Encore, was based on the dissertation he submitted in December 2010 at Northumbria University.

Andrew investigated how library users interacted with the library catalogue (OPAC) and how the same users interacted with Encore. Almost all the students who took part to the project rated Encore closer to their image of "ideal catalogue" than the OPAC.

If you want to know more about the project, Andrew's thesis is available online at http://bit.ly/encoremm
